We believe that in the community of faith, each person has important roles and responsibilities to fulfill in order for God’s church to function properly.
Christ-Centered Disciples
In Luke 9:23-24 Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.” In this Jesus establishes His criteria for being His disciple.
Deny Self—submit control of your life to Jesus
Take up your cross—sacrifice or put to death the selfish part of ourselves. Basically, sacrifice who we are so we can be all that we were created to be.
Follow Christ—live by a new set of values, the Commands of Christ.
Repent and Follow Christ (Luke 9:23; Acts 17;24-34)Love God with all your heart, mind and soul (Matt. 22:37)Love fellow Christians as Christ loves you (John 13:34-35)Love people who are near to you as yourself (Matt. 22:39)Make disciples (Matt. 28:19)Baptize followers of Christ (Matt. 28:19)Teach Christian to obey every command of Christ (Matt. 28:20)
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12, that a disciple offers himself/herself as a “living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Paul continues by writing, “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.”
As we follow Jesus and allow Him to transform us, we will have the opportunity to use our gifts and talents to serve God and others.
Christ-Centered Pastors and Leaders
In Ephesians 4:11-16 we see that “some are called to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors, and some teachers in order to prepare God’s people for works of service.” This preparation brings unity to the body of Christ and spiritual fullness in a Christian’s life.
Our ministers and leaders use their gifts to work together as a team to preach the gospel, teach biblical truths, equip Christians with the tools to grow spiritually, train followers of Christ for works of service. Together, we can help others experience true life with Jesus.
